Lecturer: Special Faculty - MSP Director (Teaching)

The Master of Statistical Practice (MSP) Director position is a 12-month special faculty appointment in the Department of Statistics & Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University www.stat.cmu.edu) . The MSP program is a one-year, two-semester professional master's degree program that emphasizes statistical practice, methods, data analysis and practical workplace skills. The Master of Statistical Practice degree is an intensive two-semester professional master's program that emphasizes statistical practice, methods, data analysis, and practical workplace skills. The MSP program is for students who are interested in professional careers in business, industry, government, marketing, or scientific research, or continuing in graduate school. There is no thesis requirement for this program. One of the hallmarks of the MSP program is our course, "Statistical Practice." The focus of this course is a consulting project. These projects come from companies in and around Pittsburgh as well as on campus.

Responsibilities:

• Represents the program both within and outside the university.
• Brings leadership and vision to the programs implementation, development, and evolution; initiates ideas for program innovation; develops and manages procedures to maintain quality and remains consistent with university objectives.
• Teach our professional skills class (36-611/612 Professional Skills for Statisticians I and II), with an expected load of one course per semester.
• Works with program team to establish the structure of the curriculum.
• Provides information regarding employment opportunities following graduation. The main focus is to help students succeed in finding roles/jobs in industry.
• Serve as the liaison among the graduate students, program faculty, and the department administration.
• Serve as the program's representative on collegiate and/or University governance committees, as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Required: Bachelor’s in Higher Education or a related field, excellent teaching and communication skills, leadership experience and ability to effectively engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge/experience partly in industry relative to data science for student job placement. Experience in data science a positive.

Lecturer - Special Faculty (Teaching - part-time)

The Department of Statistics & Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University invites applicants to apply for the position of Lecturer - Special Faculty (Teaching - part-time), at its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania campus.

This person would be teaching the Fall 2020 Practical Statistical Computing course in the Master of Statistical Practice (MSP) program. The successful candidate will have experience in practical statistical computing and software engineering, and may have teaching experience or related industry experience.

Responsibilities:

* Teaching approximately 3 hours in class per week; approximately 9 hours outside of class.
* Providing office hours for students with questions or concerns
* Providing appropriate workload (homeworks, exams, etc.)
* Being available to answer questions via email.

Qualifications:

* Experience in data science, statistical computing, or software engineering
* Master's Degree in Statistics, Data Science, software engineering, or a related field (PhD preferred)
* Teaching experience preferred.
