Incorporating Retrials Into
-Symmetric Networks
Glen Takahara
Abstract:
We describe and analyze models of telephone
networks which explicitly incorporate callers who retry upon receiving
a busy signal due to insufficient network capacity. Usual models of
telephone networks assume that blocked callers do not retry but are simply
lost, thus greatly simplifying the stochastic inputs to the system. Even
with the assumption of loss, an exact analysis of large telephone networks is
mathematically intractable. The approach here is to generalize
various approximation methods that exist for analyzing networks without retrials
to networks which allow for retrials, and to examine the effect of retrials on
network performance and behaviour using these generalized approximations.
