Most people writing 1-3 pp of comments (usually 1-2 pp). Some people only wrote about grammar and usage. That will be useful to the author, but not as useful as structural changes in sentences or paragraphs that will improve the readability. [mostly but not all esl] define before use... lengthy paragprahs or sentences that can be broken up... several people reminded authors to take credit for their work! Yay!! Some people wrote overall commetns on content with no detailed writing suggeistons... Writing a summary of the paper/section(s) at the beginning is helpful! --------------------------------------------------------------- Adhikari, Samrachana Wrote comments on pdf's instead of separate sheet. Fine for real life but more difficult for me to see, in some cases, why you made that suggestion. Chakravarti, Purvasha Nice set of comments, really trying to use ideas in class and be supportive of author. I don't agree with all your suggestions, but that's fine (I don't have to!). Orellana Arreaga, Josue Nice useful set of comments following the ideas in class. --------------------------------------------------------------- Chakravarti, Purvasha Pospisil, Taylor Nice set of comments! I agree with most, and they are presented clearly and neutrally. Qin, Jining Really nice thoughtful set of comments. --------------------------------------------------------------- Cuellar Correa, Maria Adhikari, Samrachana Extensive comments on a separate sheet, plus markup on the pdf! I thought the comments on the separate sheet were very thoughtful, helpful, and neutrally presented. I thought your markup on the pdf was useful too (except that I didn't understand your markup on eq (3)). Richardson, Lee Good set of comments on a passage that was more difficult to edit. --------------------------------------------------------------- Dabbs, Beau Adhikari, Samrachana Nice set of text comments, focused on breaking up long passages with multiple ideas into shorter single-idea units. Richardson, Lee Good set of comments, focused on rearranging material and adding detail to make things clearer. --------------------------------------------------------------- Elliott, Peter Adhikari, Samrachana Useful, brief set of comments. Some use of ideas in class. Qin, Jining Useful, brief set of comments focusing on clarificaiton and smooth transitions. --------------------------------------------------------------- (*)Gallagher, Shannon Cuellar Correa, Maria Basically usage comments, rather than organizational comments. Useful but not perhaps the most one could say. Pospisil, Taylor Mostly usage and grammar comments. Useful, but perhaps more could be said. --------------------------------------------------------------- Luby, Amanda Gallagher, Shannon Good usage and flow comments. Less specifically about structural ideas we have discussed in class, but should be useful to Shannon. Orellana Arreaga, Josue Good useful set of general comments. The problems were perhaps a little more basic than with other papers, and your suggestions should help. --------------------------------------------------------------- Matano, Francesca Cuellar Correa, Maria In the general comments you summarized the point of the paper before offering commnments on it -- great!! General comments very helpful in conveying content. Could have used more specific comments about structuring sentences and paragraphs and so forth to make things clearer. Pospisil, Taylor comments are brief and positive. Even though the section is technical, what could Taylor do to make it more readable? It doesn't have to be a challenge for the reader! --------------------------------------------------------------- McVeigh, Brendan Dabbs, Beau Useful brief set of comments focusing on some ideas from class, and some general ideas of clarity and explicitness. I think more could be said though. Gallagher, Shannon Useful comments focused on reorganizing material for greater readability. --------------------------------------------------------------- Orellana Arreaga, Josue Cuellar Correa, Maria Brief useful comments on usage, on taking credit, and some signposts for skim readers. Luby, Amanda Nice set of comments focused on structural issues we have discussed in class. --------------------------------------------------------------- Pospisil, Taylor McVeigh, Brendan Fine general set of comments focused on appropriate detail; not much in the way of structural ideas from class. Qin, Jining Good set of comments on structural changes that may improve readability. --------------------------------------------------------------- Qin, Jining Luby, Amanda Started with a summary - useful! The general comments are usefyul but perhaps at too high a level. SOme detailed comments and suggestions would really help Amanda! McVeigh, Brendan Again a useful summary. But detailed comments and suggestions are important for the author! --------------------------------------------------------------- (*)Richardson, Lee Chakravarti, Purvasha Mostly usage and contect comments, at a high level. Not too many specific writing suggestions! Dabbs, Beau Useful comments on clarification issues, completing thoughts, etc. Seems to involve more detail than your review of Purvasha's work! ---------------------------------------------------------------
