1910 Census   Living on Braddock Avenue with Louis Stern. Max is 24 y/o and working as a clerk at a grocery store.

Max's WWI draft registration lists his birthday, place of birth occupation (grocery business), and next of kin (wife and 2 children). He is 5 foot 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds/ His signature is included.

1920 Census   Living on Electric Avenus with wife Tillie and daughters Florence, Ruth and Lillian. Brother-in-law Manuel Herskovitz is living with them.

If you go to ellisisland.org and search for Max Seltmann, you will find a 1924 record which is when Max returned from the old country in his unsuccessful attempt to get his siblings and mother to come to the US. He left from LeHavre on 8 November 1924 on the ship "Paris" and arrived at Ellis Island (presumably for the second time) on 15 November 1924. He is listed as a 37 y/o married male from 1534 Electric Ave, Pittsburgh, traveling on passport # 447290 issued by the court of Pittsburgh on 5 November 1910.

The 1930 Census has 43 y/o Max and 35 y/o Tillie living at 1534 Electric Avenue in a house they own worth $10,000 with Florence (16), Ruth (13), Lilian (10), Seymour (7) and Morton (3+5/12 in April). Louis and Sadie Farkas and son Lawrence (17 y/o, Flo's future husband) are at 1500 Electric Ave. Max and Tillie have been married for 18 years. Max and his parents were born in Czechoslovakia where they spoke "Jewish". Max immigrated in 1903 and is naturalized. He is an employer; a merchant in his "own shop". Tillie was born in New York and her parents were born in Czechoslovakia.
