The 1900 Census shows 5 year old Tillie living at 111 Gorack St. in Manhattan, NY, NY with father Jacob (30), mother Jennie (29), brother "Alfie" (7), sister Gussie (3), brother "Morris" (1), uncle Marcus Hershkovitz (18), and her father;s cousin Sadie Schonbrum (20). The adults (and their parents) are all from Hungary, while the children were all born in NY. Jacob and Jennie have been married for 9 years and Jacob immigrated in 1884, while Jennie came in 1885. Jacob is still an alien (Jennie's status is not listed). Jacob is a presser. Marcus is a "Taylor" who came in 1898. Sadie is a "Busler" who came in 1894. All of the adults can read and write, but Marcus cannot speak English.

The two youngest sons were born in Pennsylvania, and the other children in New York, so the family moved from New York to Pittsburgh around 1901-1905. The parents' heritage is now listed as "Aus Yiddish", with immigration in 1885 and 1887 respectively. Jacob is naturalized. He is the proprietor of a pool room.
