VIGRE Postdoctoral Fellows

VIGRE postdoctoral fellows are typically appointed for a term of 31 months (three 9-month terms and two 2-month summers), typically no more than 18 months after receiving their PhD in Statistics or a related field.

VIGRE postdocs participate in one or more research groups in the department, which typically provide 1/3 of their salary, are welcome and encouraged to participate in all mentoring activities, colloquia and seminars, etc., and are expected to submit a grant proposal before the end of their postdoctoral appointment.  The teaching load of a VIGRE postdoc is typically one course per term (and none in the summer).

VIGRE postdocs are accorded the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in the department, so they participate in all full faculty meetings and other general faculty functions in the department.  They are free (and encouraged) to follow their intellectual instincts in the department, as any other junior faculty member would be.
